Hudson Valley debut of Black Liberation poet Amina Baraka
Concert honors Armistice Day and Russian Revolution centenary
Celebrated poet/activist of the Black Arts Movement, Amina Baraka, makes her Woodstock debut in a special concert on Saturday November 11, Armistice Day, the traditional commemoration of war’s end, which this year falls on the eve of the Russian Revolution’s centenary. Expect a powerful assemblage of political militancy through poetry, prose and free jazz.
Ms. Baraka, widow of legendary poet/playwright Amiri Baraka, toured the world in collaboration with her husband, performing in readings and theatre pieces, carrying an internationalist message of equality and liberty. In the wake of her husband’s passing, she’s become increasingly active as a performance poet. Her debut as a recording artist in her own right, “Amina Baraka and the Red Microphone”, was released this summer by noted jazz label ESP-Disk.
